Man Vs Shelf: Screws included

Matthew Mckew is a self made comedian, now based in Kent. Once upon a time, between 2013 and 2017 he was a reporter for the Isle of Wight County Press and had the opportunity to come to watch several of the shows at the Apollo Theatre (he even wrote up some great reviews of our plays).

4 years ago he suffered a serious head injury that eventually led to the demise of his journalism career, having gone on to work freelance for CNN. Says Matt “I began performing stand up comedy in a bid to rebuild my memory, my oratory skills and my confidence, after being left at times unable to read, write or speak very well. Last year I took a 45-minute work in progress show, Man v Shelf: Screws not Included, to Edinburgh Fringe and performed to sell-out audiences for around three-quarters of my 25 day run. Audiences left me five star reviews”. Preview here

Matthew’s updated show - now an hour long – enjoyed more success at this year's Edinburgh Fringe and is looking forward to bringing it to the Isle of Wight, his home for many years.

“The Isle of Wight was a formative part of my adult life and I still have many friends on the Island, and so I am looking forward to showing old friends my new tricks”
